ICOMOS Canada is looking for five new board members to fill vacancies beginning November 2024.
In accordance with the ICOMOS Canada Bylaws, the 2024 General Assembly will elect the following members of the Board by secret ballot for a term of up to three years (2024-2027): five Board members. According to Article 19 of ICOMOS Canada’s bylaws and Article 6-e of the ICOMOS Statutes, only individual members shall be eligible for office within ICOMOS Canada.
Board members are jointly responsible for the managerial and fiduciary well-being of the organization as well as for guidance and oversight to ensure excellence in the execution of programs and activities. Between General Assemblies, the Board acts on its behalf, deliberates on all matters necessary to ensure conformity with ICOMOS Canada’s mission and implementation of its thematic priorities, as well as financial health and compliance with the legislation applicable to associations.
The Board meets via teleconference around 10 times per year, usually once a month, which board members are expected to attend. Board members may be invited to serve on ICOMOS Canada’s various committees. Candidates for election to the Board should bear in mind that the current budgetary restrictions of ICOMOS Canada preclude the provision of any funding to support individual expenses for attending any of the above meetings.
All nominations must be received no later than 45 days before the election is due to be held, that is at the latest by September 29, 2024.
The Nominating Committee, having examined and verified all files nominating candidates for election, shall convey the final list of eligible candidates to the current Board of Directors at least 30 days before the election is due to be held, that is by October 14, 2024. ICOMOS Canada shall make the list of candidates available for inspection at least 14 days before the election is held, that is by October 30, 2024. This will include: the brief résumé, statement of intent, and photograph of the candidates.
A candidate for election to the Board may withdraw his or her candidature, or notify a change to the position for which they seek to be elected (subject to complying with the candidature requirements set out in ICOMOS Canada bylaws), up to 48 hours before the election begins.
Current Board members who can renew their term according to the bylaws must express in writing their wish to extend their term.
